The Email Birth Announcement: A Great Solution for the Socially Networked

3487954077_a8dd27cf59_mIn this era of cyber societies the number of people on your birth announcement recipient list is probably a lot larger than you had anticipated. So what if you don’t want to or can’t afford to send all those people a quality printed birth announcement? Well, the birth announcement email is an option.

Begin by creating a bulk mailing list in your mail folder. You can use your regular email address or the email function of your social network site, whatever works best for you. Be sure to save the list for future mailings because it will save plenty of time down the line.

An email announcement lets you include more photographs than a traditional card but don’t go overboard. More than four pictures could really jam up a person’s inbox and make your gesture a source of irritation. Choose three pictures of the baby alone and perhaps one with mom or both parents holding the child. Keep an eye on the size of your picture attachment and adjust accordingly.

Include links to more pictures or information underneath your basic text. The wording should be similar to a traditional card and include all the normal details such as date, weight, length and birth time. Explain links with a line of text such as “for more of our beautiful baby girl click here.” Be sure to draft all your wording and proofread carefully before sending.

Add a little decoration to your email by changing background colors, text size and font. Create a finished email and send it to yourself and your spouse. This way you can see how the finished announcement will look and double check each other on the spelling and wording. This is a great way to check your photos open quickly and easily.

Even though you may send your large social network a digital birth announcement that doesn’t mean the traditional printed card is totally out. Be sure to mail close friends and family a formal card with your favorite picture of your new child. An email is informative and fun but hard to cherish or keep for a lifetime.
