Inserts for the Baby Announcements: Advice for the New Mom
A nice touch to any printed birth announcement is an insert card. The insert can be a number of different things such as a printed link to a photo sharing site, the gift registry information (if that’s your thing), a photo of the proud parents or an advice card for the new mother. This last one is a great idea and a good way of starting off the conversations between you and your family in the wake of this beautiful and changing dynamic i.e. the baby.
Think about those recipe cards people send out just before the bridal shower and turn that concept into advice cards for new parents. It’s just a formal way of introducing the subject of parenting advice. I mean, its going to happen right? After you deliver your new baby everyone will call or e-mail their congratulations with not too subtle parenting advice delivered in the last paragraph:
“Remember to get some rest!”
“Babies can cry themselves to sleep so relax”
“The first of many we hope!”
“Remember to establish that routine as quickly as possible so you can still have quality time
”
“Dad needs sleep too!”
Aaah sleep. It was nice while it lasted. Now you are up all night anyway why not design your own advice cards to go inside your birth announcement? You could include wording to indicate what you want (“please share your best advice for Molly and James here”) and a self addressed return envelope to ensure a reply.
It may sound a little kooky at first but I assure you that friends and family will have lots of fun advice to give you and will enjoy writing it up. And for you, it’s a set of words you can read through when you need a little parenting strength. It’ll be great to get through those times without having to call for advice. The card means you can keep your lack of knowledge to yourself (which is always nice I think).
Have fun with advice cards inside birth announcements. Add a social networking page for wall advice and you are good to go.
