Well unfortunately I lost my baby last Thursday and realized that choosing new birth announcements is not in my immediate future. A friend who also lost a baby told me she had sent out memorial cards. They are like birth announcements for babies that didn’t get to be born. Okay so its a little sad but what a great way to commemorate your pregnancy and affirm the importance of life and learning to accept when things go wrong. Birth announcements can be in memory of cards with a few small changes.

Depending on the length of your pregnancy you may or may not have an image of baby for your memory card. Consider the sonogram or just go with a picture of a teddy bear or blocks. You may want to consider a spiritual take and include an image of an angel. Or perhaps a soothing image of nature. Look at the many options your online printer has to offer. You may want to run a number of different searches or upload an image of your own.

The wording of a baby memorial card should be clear and simple. If there are birth stats, feel free to include them. You can include the date of passing or the official due date. Everyone deserves a name and including one is a must, even if you only go with Baby Smith. I have seen memorial cards that include baby’s pregnancy nickname such as “peanut” or “pickle” and this is perfectly acceptable.

Be sure to word your memorial card so folks know you are trying to commemorate your baby and still provide a positive underlying message. Life is full of loss and sorrow but new hope is just around the corner. This should be the tone of your baby card to help family heal and at the same time grieve with you.

Although I am all for this creative use of the birth announcement tradition I would restrict baby memory cards to close family members only. They will provide a tangible reminder of the lost family member but also ensure they always have a place in the family album. There are many ways to deal with pregnancy loss. For you it may be custom printed memory cards and that is okay.

No matter what happens with baby whether its a healthy birth, a premature birth or even a passing, custom printing really can help you process and commemorate the happening. My heart goes out to all mommies hugging their babies in their arms or holding them in their hearts. Or for many of us, doing both.

Trying to create nice baby gifts that include the birth details can be difficult to do creatively; mostly because of the fact that people are running out of ideas. But no fear I have mulled this one over and think it viable. What about a birth announcement displayed in the center of a handmade wreath for the nursery?

Making a wreath is really not that hard, especially if you go with herbs rather than flowers. Herbs are heavily scented and usually on longer strands. You could go with fresh but dry are easier to work with and last a lot longer. Pick up one of those green wire wreath frames from the craft store as well as a few blocks of floral foam.

Cut up the foam and push it into the inside of the green wire wreath form. You don’t need a lot its just there to help add shape and tidy up the ends. Weave your herbs through the wire form concentrating on a uniform finish. Wreaths look odd when one side has more detail than another. Just keep standing back and readjusting as you go and they’ll be no problems. The best way to check your wreath is secure is to give it a good shake. If nothing falls out you are good to go.

Place the birth announcement on a thin piece of wood and varnish to hold in place and protect the details. Either place holes in the corner of the wood to thread wire through or attach the plaque using well weaved floral wire than holds the wood in place. Attach a ribbon to the top of the wreath and you are done. Its an easy project.

Keep in mind the possible dangers of young children and wild plants. Be sure the finished wreath will be out of baby’s reach and not too close to the cot or changing table. The look of the wreath is for the nursery and the smell of the wreath is to help calm mom’s nerves. Baby’s details are just an adorable extra. Another easy gift that will be treasured for always.

For some baby gifts you have to wait until after the birth to give them to mom which is more than okay. A present for baby is a present for baby no matter when it arrives. Traditionally, baby blankets were made during the last months of a pregnancy to give to the new mom upon baby’s arrival. Blankets and the like are a great baby gift as they are practical, snuggly and only make baby look even cuter. Combining elements of a birth announcement with your hand crafted baby gift provides the new parents with an heirloom piece that baby can enjoy for years to come.

If you are knitting or crocheting baby a new afghan, customizing can be a little tougher. For most, the wording would have to be sewn or embroidered in after the basic blanket was finished. In this case consider baby’s first name and numerical birth date rather than the full announcement details. If you are lucky baby’s name will be chosen in advance of the birth and you’ll only have the numbers to add later.

If quilting a blanket for baby, you have a few more options when it comes to including birth announcement details. I do not recommend cutting out individual letters and hand sewing them onto the quilt. Believe me that will become a chore very quickly. Consider embroidering the information on by hand or asking a friend with a professional sewing machine to load up a pattern and let the needle do the work.

Pillows as birth announcements are a nice idea but the actual pillow probably won’t be used in baby’s bed. It will be decorative so there is less worry about baby proofing. For birth stats you could embroider, use a fabric pen, create a transfer or sew an appliqued design. There are a lot more options when bed linen becomes decorative and not practical.

Hand made gifts will always stand the test of time and making gifts for new babies is a pleasure and a privilege. Be sure to plan out your gift and prepare as much as you can before baby is born so mom isn’t waiting months or years for the finished product.

Well I’m only five months pregnant but already thinking about the design of my second baby’s birth announcement. From experience I know those last few weeks of pregnancy will be uncomfortable, tiring and distracting. Finding the physical time or mental energy to work on birth announcements at the end of a pregnancy can be tough. That’s why I’ve decided to start brainstorming birth announcements now to save time and stress later.

In regard to the birth announcement color scheme the nursery palette doesn’t apply. Having just moved into and repainted our first house we’re not inclined to repaint in the middle of winter. If its a little boy he’ll be sharing with his brother who’s bedroom is blue and gray; not exactly newborn baby colors. I’m a fan of neutral baby colors such as green, purple and yellow. As the baby will be born in late spring early summer I’m inclined toward fresh colors like orange, yellow and light green.

As for a birth announcement theme I am still in the browsing stage. There are so many new templates at the beginning of the year, its hard to keep up. By narrowing my search to boy and postcard style it makes it a little easier but who knows if cars, jungle animals or alphabet blocks will be the right way to go. In regard to themes, I’m still keeping my options open.

With time on my side browsing the birth announcement sites is a lot of fun. This time I’m going with matching envelopes and a set of matching thank you cards that I can use to thank folks for gifts. This time round I will definitely be ordering a lot more birth announcements having discovered how many folks appreciate receiving one. With the low prices and package deals on the web right now I don’t really have to worry about budget which is nice.

Picking your child’s birth announcements is an easy way to start getting excited about the impending birth and keep your mind off swollen ankles and ever increasing stretchmarks. So the next time you start getting a little stressed or worn out from your pregnant state, hop online and start brainstorming your baby’s announcements. You are sure to improve your mood instantly.

Finding creative ways to formally announce your child to the world sometimes takes a little creative thinking. If family and friends are spread far apart or coming over for a post birth party or baptism, a flexible medium for the birth announcement may make more sense, especially if you want to combine the announcement with a party favor. I’m thinking of birth announcement stickers.

The sheets of custom printed stickers are available at the same online sites that offer announcements, cards and invites. They may work as your sole announcement or as a supplement. Personally I would get the traditional announcements and use the sticker announcements to place on the back of custom photo books. It would be cheaper to have a sticker than to custom print the photo book cover.

Depending on whether you are buying your guests thank you gifts or favors a sticker with the birth stats on is a nice finishing touch. Think about using them on boxes of candies, backs of photo frames, inside baby books, on the back of photos, as a label on gift baskets, on the bottom of paper weights, flower vases and the inside of keepsake boxes.

The online printers have quite a lot of sticker templates that you can customize as much or as little as you want. Personally a completely custom sticker would be cute but if you have a template that matches your cards and other announcements that may provide a more cohesive look.

For some folks sending birth announcements is either odd or old fashioned. By customizing the birth announcement to suit your personal needs the idea of formally announcing baby becomes more personal. And sticky.

Well the manufacturers and stores may market their best deals on Black Friday but that doesn’t mean they really are the best deals of the year. A lot of companies use January as a clearance sale time, getting rid of last year’s stock and clearing the shelves for new products. The same goes for printing companies. Like every company, printing companies capitalize on the fact people are already shopping for savings and have some really great deals, usually up until March. Finding the best deal is all about good research.

Choose five online printers that you like and compare their January deals. This means choose the printed item you want (baby shower invite, announcement, thank you card etc.) and see who offers the best deal. Look for things like free shipping but realize that usually means higher prices per piece until you order a certain amount. Decide what you want in a announcement (fold over, colored picture, oversized etc.) and see how much each item on your must have list is for each printer.

Once you have your basic criteria met start looking for additional ways to save. This means check how many more you need to order to get a price break or how much more you have to spend overall to get free shipping. Don’t forget to check for bundle bargains such as buying your invites and getting your matching thank you cards fifty percent off.

After you have all your custom printed goodies in your virtual shopping cart, open a new window and perform a coupon search. Just type in the printer’s name and add the words “coupon code” and see what comes up. Some of the codes will already be a part of the package deal you have but some may take a few dollars off the bill. If you save a few bucks from a three second search? Well, you’d be silly not to.

If the big event isn’t too far away or you have confirmed the baby shower date take a few minutes to browse the web for a January sale that could save you quite a few pennies. After all, when that baby comes, you are going to need every penny you can get.

I don’t know about you but I’m always looking for ways to save money. At the holidays I send out cards featuring my baby boy to save on separate photos. Some folks decide to save the party or shower for after the baby’s birth giving you a chance to bundle your printing. A christening or baptism is a great opportunity to combine a photo of your child as well as provide a memento of the special occasion.

Birth announcements that combine with christening cards need to make sure all the necessary information is on the card. The birth statistics (date, time, weight, length) as well as the christening information (day, year, location) should appear without looking crowded onto the template. Try finding a template that offers a number of text boxes that you can manipulate to suit your needs. Changing the font and the text size can change the whole look of an announcement so try a few experiments before finalizing your design.

When you are trying to combine so much information on one piece of custom printing you may want to go with a larger postcard style or fold over card style. And as you intend for the finished product to be a keepsake for family and friends, consider a thicker card stock to provide more strength and durability.

I think if you are combining the birth announcement and the christening announcement more than one image of baby won’t look out of place. Consider two very similar images or two contrasting images. When my little guy was a newborn I would take five photos in ten seconds. This provided a nice series of images with the same setting and clothes but different facial expressions; great for using on a birth announcement.

To combine even more, why not turn your birth announcement/christening announcements into an invitation to attend? That will save on stamps and make a detailed cute invitation that will be treasured for a lifetime.

Over the last few years I have received several birth announcements all with slight variations on text. Sometimes people forget that the birth announcement wording that goes in the local newspaper is not the same as the birth announcement that you write on your custom printed card. Both types of announcement offer an opportunity for custom text with an appropriate tone. Lets go over some of the basics of birth announcement text. Because you don’t want the birth stats from the hospital PR department to be your only record.

A newspaper birth announcement is comprised of a few lines of text and maybe a photograph depending on the rules of the publication. The announcement should provide birth details as well as family members. Most folks like to include the grandparents in the announcement even if they are deceased. Always check spelling! You wouldn’t believe the number of times someone spelled grandma’s name wrong on an announcement. After all you call them grandma not so and so don’t you?

A newspaper birth announcement usually has less text space than a custom printed card. The sentences should be concise and short, sticking to the facts. If you are not sure of the general tone of birth announcements in your local rag, go down to the office and ask the editor or advertising department for help. Looking through your local paper will also give you the style of birth announcements in your region.

When you create your own baby birth announcements online the text choices are very different. In most cases, custom printed cards do not include the grandparents details. The focus is on the child, first and foremost. Custom printed announcements usually have a lighter tone than newspaper announcements. The wording is less formal and usually more involved. The main reason for this is baby’s newspaper announcement is the historic record of your child’s birth whereas the custom printed cards are your personal record and can be more creative and relaxed.

The best way to decide on wording for your birth announcement is to look at examples. Take the aspects of different announcements that you like and incorporate them into your wording. Always draft your announcement text and ask for a proofread from your partner before uploading to the printer. Only newspapers offer the chance for retractions.

Well the short answer is obviously ‘no.’ You don’t need to design and print custom birth announcements to survive. A cute picture of baby accompanied by birth stats will not stop you from starving or dying of thirst. A lot of folks don’t send birth announcements these days for one reason or another and there is no rule that says you have to. But if you want to preserve your child’s special moments and capture memories for a lifetime? Then yes, birth announcements are an absolute must.

If I hadn’t created birth announcements for my son right after he was born I know I would have regretted it. I have a friend who is totally against traditional and expected social mores and she sent out her birth announcements faster than me. There is something so very special about a birth announcement. They provoke emotion and memory. They provide the beginning of a story that is your child’s life.

Now in hindsight I would probably have ordered more birth announcements than I did. As well as some matching thank you cards and miniature office calenders for my friends and family. If I could go back and do it again I’d like to get a custom canvas print of my son’s birth announcement for his room. The more I learn about birth announcements, the more sense they seem to make; they are time capsules.

Have you ever been rummaging in the back of a cupboard only to come across a favorite t-shirt from old that you thought was long gone? Did memories associated with wearing it come flooding back and make you smile? Of course, because the item captured a moment in time, a piece of your life that was enjoyable. Same goes for birth announcements.

This coming summer I’ll have a new little one to start designing for. Its going to be great to browse over all the new template options that have been produced in the last few years. Birth announcement research and design is a great way to forget that every second that passes you get a little heavier.

The holidays are fun but fleeting. Getting back to some sense of normality after being so off schedule or with a lot of schedule changes can be a challenge. The New Year brings new tasks and new things for your ever growing to do list. Like invitations. Yes spring babies are about to pop up everywhere so its time to organize that shower or first birthday party. And of course the first thing to do is get the information to print the invitation.

The best way to organize a baby shower or baby birthday party is to list the logistics. This means the ‘who, what, why, when and where’ of basic party planning. If you don’t have this information down you don’t really have a party. Always double check dates, times and venues with both the mommy to be and the venue before printing anything.

Personally I like the basic details of any party or shower invitation front and center. Meaning cutesy and creative is great but if I can’t find the start time under a multitude of pretty swirls the invite isn’t effective. There are design templates out there that offer you pretty backgrounds but clear text areas. Its important that an invitation be both decorative and practical.

Theme is solidified in the baby shower invitation; well, in most cases. If you aren’t sure of the theme or are still deciding between two choose a neutral design for your invitation. It can include colors and motifs from the two preferred themes. When you cut it down to one later on in the planning process the invite will still work, aesthetically speaking.

My new thing with custom printing is custom printed envelopes. These days custom printing is pretty ubiquitous. People print from home and some of the individual spark has gone. Let your guests know you went the extra mile and get matching envelopes. Its usually just a few dollars more and gives a polished look to your baby shower invitation.
