Sibling Rivalry: Including Other Children in the Birth Announcement
Browsing the internet looking for interesting birth announcement ideas, I came across the cutest image of a little girl holding her baby brother. I thought how awesome would this be for a birth announcement? Talk about making sure the older sibling doesn’t feel left out.
The birth of a younger brother or sister can be very confusing for a child. They feel displaced, having to finally share their parents with another child, resentful and perhaps a little excited. It’s important for the parents to capitalize on any positive feelings a child has about the new baby to ensure a loving bond grows between the two children.
What better way to do that than from the very day of the baby’s birth? Let the child hold the baby and shoot both video footage (for your baby website) and take a ton of photographs. The more pictures you take the better choice you will have for which image ends up on the birth announcement.
Capturing your two (or three) children in the birth announcement can make for a wonderful picture. Color works well for this type of image. You don’t have to announce the sibling’s name in the birth announcement as friends and family will either know or quickly work out who the addition is.
The pride your older child will feel at being included in the birth announcement will be a great positive foundation for the burgeoning sibling relationship. Order extra announcements so that big sister can share them with friends and teachers at school. If they aren’t big enough for school, there’s always play group, daycare and story time folks who will be happy to share in the good news.
