First Birthday Birth Announcements: One Way Not to Miss Out

2052055803_a508c7ed75_mI have received several comments telling me how much people wished they had ordered birth announcements for their own baby. Their problem? Their babies are six, eight or ten months old and sending out a birth announcement may seem a little late and inappropriate. But the first birthday announcement is a great birth announcement substitute.

The first birthday is one of the most important celebrations in a young child’s life. Formal announcements make great keepsakes and allow parents to have a wonderful and appropriate birth announcement substitute. You can use actual birth announcement cards and simple change the text slightly. Instead of announcing the birth you simply announce the culmination of the first year of life.

Choose a birth announcement style that easily adapts to a first year announcement. Perhaps your child already has a passion for ducks or blocks or teddy bears. Try and find a design that suits your child’s burgeoning personality or favorite things. This will make the announcement a good reminder for mom of some of the little details in years to come. Ultimately pick a design that will make it clear that you are announcing the first year as a celebration of birth.

Pick a recent photograph of your baby to put on the front of the first year announcement.  Don’t try to use a newborn photograph as it would be confusing. Unless of course you choose one of those birth announcements with room for two pictures and then it would be very cute to use a newborn photo on the left side and a one year old photo on the right side.

Birth announcements should be sent out before your baby is two months old, preferably in the first six weeks of life. If you missed the boat on the birth announcement thing this just shows you it’s not too late. Celebrating your child’s birth is a magical moment in their memory box. And if that first birthday is just around the corner maybe it’s time to start designing that first year birth announcement for your precious one.
