Creating a Vintage Look Birth Announcement

I for one am a big fan of the Victorian era, the Progressive or Edwardian period and the pre World War II styles in writing, dress, color palettes and wording. For lovers of history, an antiqued or vintage style birth announcement may work perfectly for the birth of their new child. Here are a few ideas on how to create an old fashioned birth announcement with all the modern essentials.
The sepia photograph is a must for the vintage look birth announcement card. Sepia images can be created from scratch at professional photographers. Alternatively use your own digital images and change the color using a photo shop or editing program. A little experimentation will go a long way to creating just the right image of your new child.
Compliment the photo on your vintage look birth announcement by choosing brown ink over black for your text. Although you may want to use one of the scripts designated as vintage in your word processing program (i.e. Edwardian) they can be a little too fancy and difficult to read. Use something classic but simple, elegant but legible. I suggest Book Antiqua, Parisian script or Copperplate. If you are going with all caps text, the Engraved script can look very nice.
Choose a cream or antique white cardstock for your vintage look birth announcement card. Bright whites and gloss finishes look ultra modern so go with the off white and matte finish to keep things looking dated. A cool blue or even a pale green to contrast the off white can add a little depth and texture to the card.
Finish off the vintage style birth announcement card with a matching custom envelope. Choose thicker paper and embossed seals to make things feel lost in time. Why not order custom stamps to complete your design? It takes an individual to create a birth announcement that has character so make your new character shine with an old school look.
