Birth Announcement Designs: Stages of New Life

466878969_efb3d5e5e0_mWhen I was pregnant with my darling boy, I was lucky enough to get both regular ultrasound images as well as the new three dimensional images taken of him inside the womb. I have pictures of my baby from ten weeks after conception up until eight months. I made photocopies of those images for grandparents as keepsakes and they were just blown away how much technology had changed.

It made me think about the many possibilities on the modern birth announcement. How the actual birth photographs could be the last in a series of images on your printed announcement. Instead of seeing the birth as a beginning of a life, it could also be viewed as the culmination of pregnancy.

The three image template announcement works well for this concept. The first image could be the baby inside the womb. Scan the image into the computer or take a photo of the photo. I’ve done this before with reasonable success. Choose the clearest image you have meaning the one where your child looks like a child if you know what I mean.

For the second or middle image, a photograph of mom in the last stage of pregnancy is a nice touch. You can show the belly or wear a form fitting shirt. The mother’s hands making a heart shape over the belly button in black and white with a frontal view is just plain cute. The side silhouette looks nice too.

Conclude the look with an image of mom and dad with the new baby. The baby alone works too but it is nice to see the new family. If you do the other two images in black and white this could be in color to show the contrast pre and post birth or do all the same color to make it look more uniform.

Themes such as butterflies, emergence, rebirth and nature’s wonder work well with the pre and post birth announcement style. It’s a celebration of the miracle that is birth as well as the actual child being born.
