Baby Showers and Birth Announcements: Multitasking and the New Parent
Traditionally baby showers were held after the birth of a child and in many places they still are. Waiting to have the shower until the baby is a few weeks old lets the new mom enjoy things better as she is no longer is physical discomfort. Everyone gets to see the baby at one time saving the new parents from numerous exhausting visits. Birth announcements offer the opportunity to discuss a post birth baby shower.
It’s always a good idea to design baby shower invites, birth announcements and thank you cards at the same time. You can get everything in the same design and save money on shipping costs. So why not add save the date cards to your custom printing list and organize your post birth shower?
Save the date cards are simply a formal way of asking people to keep a certain date free on their schedule until they receive a formal invitation from you with time and location specifics. You can order save the date cards from a range of online templates but they will probably be the same size as the actual birth announcement. Instead you could turn business cards into save the date cards to insert into your birth announcement envelopes.
A lot of online companies offer free business cards these days. You could use one of the templates and just change the wording. A template for a kindergarten or babysitting service would have the right kind of clip art. They would fit nicely inside the birth announcements and save you money on postage or time on phone calls. Include your e-mail address rather than your phone number for the RSVP. A ringing phone easily wakes a sleeping baby.
In days of yore, as far back as ancient Egypt and ancient Rome, baby showers were held after a child’s birth to let everyone meet the new arrival. Gifts were all hand made and from the heart and included clothes, toys and food for the new baby. Wouldn’t it be great if we could bring a little of that old world sensibility into the modern baby shower?
