Alternative Birth Announcement for the Creative New Parents
I’m a big fan of the printed birth announcement. It gives you a way to distribute images and first thoughts about your new child, fits easily into a photo frame or photo album and becomes a treasure for years to come. But it’s not the only possibility when it comes to birth announcements. Here are a couple of alternatives to the traditional printed version.
The candy bar birth announcement. There are so many different varieties of the birth announcement candy bar on the consumer market these days it’s difficult to know what to choose. You can purchase custom chocolate bars or personalized labels or both. I say go with a candy bar you prefer and be sure to include a photo of the new baby on the label. These are best for handing out rather than mailing.
The plastic bottle. We’ve all seen this idea right? You fill a baby bottle with candy and print a label with the birth details on it and stick it on the side of the bottle. They can be very generic and miniature announcing the simple “it’s a girl!” message or custom printed to your needs. These are cute but a little old hat.
Bookmarks, stickers and magnets with the birth information on them are growing in popularity. For me, this is a little too casual for close friends and family but may work well as a post birth baby shower favor or as a birth announcement alternative for co-workers and acquaintances.
I found a yard sign online that is seven foot high with a stork and space to fill in all your new baby’s birth statistics. If you don’t want to mail individual announcements this may be the way to go or could act as a nice yard marker for visitors, shower attendees or just to shout out to your neighbors that your little one has arrived.
I’m a big fan of the baby website which can include photos of the new baby as well as RSS feeds so everyone gets the birth details at exactly the same time. The only problem is this is a little impersonal and may work in conjunction with a printed announcement.
Whatever you choose, I still believe a few printed announcements will serve you well. They remain the ultimate keepsake after the birth of your child. A combination of announcements gives things a flavor of fun.

Thanks for some great thoughts there. I am kind of new to web surfing, so I printed this off to put in my file, any better way to go about keeping track of it then printing?
