Alphabet Block Baby Birth Announcements

It came to me the other day when I was perusing the toy store with my baby boy. We were in the classic wooden toys area, admiring the strength and longevity of the pieces. I picked up a wooden alphabet block. My son grabbed it thinking it was a mirror and tried to find his reflection in the surface. And so came the idea of the birth announcement wooden block.

To make a birth announcement out of a wooden block there are two ways to go: painted or glued. I think a hand painted block with the entire child’s birth statistics on would be wonderful. I also think it would be more time consuming than any new parent could manage. Custom printed labels or stickers will save a lot of time and create a beautiful crisp finish to your unusual announcement.

Determine how much of the block you will cover with your custom birth announcement stickers and how much will be left to look like an actual alphabet block. I like the idea of covering every other square with information but this may not always work. Depending on how much you want to spend on the blocks will determine the quality of the finish. You may want to show more or less of the block depending on the block’s quality.

Use a professional printer for your birth announcement stickers to get the most polished look. If it were me, I would finish up by coating with a thin layer of clear varnish or decoupage glue (depending on your sticker’s finish) to ensure many years of handling.

The cute thing about a baby birth announcement block is the ease of keeping it. The block would look cute on the shelf in the bedroom or living room, on top of the television set or in your curio cabinet. It will be picked up by every perusing  guest and create a hundred opportunities to share your pride. Hand out alphabet block birth announcements at post baby showers or family get togethers.

A room full of oohs and aaahs is always fun.
