Texture is a great way to add a custom look to baby birth announcements. Texture is created in a number of ways using a number of different materials. Depending on your own particular style and design preferences adding texture to your baby’s birth announcement may strike the creative note you desire.

Cut the blanket from the hospital into small strips and pin a small amount to the inside of all of your birth announcements. This way all your friends and family have a reason to hold onto the announcement forever and will really feel a part of your celebration.

A little blue or pink ribbon on the edge of the birth announcement is a nice detail that adds texture and makes printed cards look personalized. Use ribbons from the new baby’s actual blankets or gifts to give extra meaning to the announcement.

Paper on paper or paper on cardstock can create texture on a baby birth announcement.  Weave a little thin paper down one side of the announcement frame by punching holes in a line and threading a thin strip of paper through the holes. Simply gluing a card framed photograph onto a card announcement adds dimension and texture.

Paper can be rolled and sliced to create interesting designs and give birth announcements an arts and crafts sort of feel. Use old baby magazines cut into strips and rolled tightly around a pencil. Create origami appliqués by folding your OB-GYN appointment cards into a design. Think about paper options that include something related to either the baby or your pregnancy to give it significance.

Texture on birth announcements can really help your card stand out and become a family keepsake. Be sure not to overdo it, utilizing the “less is more” philosophy. Texture can be a visual impact or the distribution of personal mementoes. It’s up to you where you go with it but it can be a creative way to express your new joy.
