Buying in Bulk for the Baby Shower

312457876_0aecb48a0c_mI’m getting ready to host a baby shower in a couple of weeks and every time I look at the favor bags they just don’t seem full enough. Thing is I don’t want to spend a ton of money on party favors when there is still food and decorations to buy. So I’ve been brainstorming ways of getting cute favors on a tight budget and I came across some great deals in bulk.

Candles. Candles are beautiful but can be quite pricey when you try to buy a lot of them at once. I totally recommend buying candle making supplies in bulk and making them yourself. Leftover supplies can be deducted from the price of the shower favors and used for holiday gifts, hostess gifts or teacher gifts. Consider soy wax rather than beeswax to save a few bucks. Make the candles right in their final containers to avoid buying candle molds.

Guest soaps. I was stunned to find a bulk lot of 20 handmade guest soaps for $5 with free shipping. What a deal. Hey if you can’t make something yourself, the best alternative is to have someone else make it for you. If you can’t find that kind of a deal look for bulk lots of hotel soaps. You may want to add your own label to spruce them up a little.

Samples. Whether its makeup, perfume, hand creams or face creams, sample size packets are great for favors. I just bought 150 mixed samples for $13. Less than a dime a piece and I can mix and match and add them to the favor bags. Left over sample packets can go into stockings or act as small shower game prizes.

Lip gloss or lip balm. Whether you make them from scratch or you buy them in bulk lip balms are a great favor for the winter baby shower. There are a number of lip balm recipes online and it looks pretty simple. Just be sure to calculate the cost of making versus buying. If you make realize that all the ingredients (beeswax, lip balm pots etc.) are available in bulk. Work out the cost per lip balm versus the time you have to find what’s best for you.

Buying in bulk always saves your money so never dismiss it as an option for any aspect of your baby shower.
