Bath Bombs for the Budget Baby Shower Favor

3229749358_d77c0f16a0_mWhen you are on a tight baby shower budget trying to stretch every available penny buying favors can be quite a hurdle. Professional favors are two to three dollars each and that’s at the low end of the scale. But you still want to give your guests nice thank you gifts. By making your own bath bombs or fizz bombs you get to pamper your guests, provide them with a luxury item and oh yeah, save a bunch of money.

Gather your bath bomb ingredients. You need baking soda, citric acid, color, scent and witch hazel. You’ll also need a mixing bowl, mixing spoon, spray bottle/spritz bottle and a mold. Most craft stores carry all of these ingredients. Save a little money by getting whatever you can at the dollar store. My local shop stocks molds, baking soda and essential oils so that’s a big savings right there. Remember soap scents are cheaper than actual essential oils.  The amounts you need depend on the recipe you choose.

Mix 1 part citric acid to every two parts baking soda. You must mix them very thoroughly; if you have one of those stand mixers alls the better. Take your time with this step as it is the foundation of the entire bath bomb.

Add you color and your scent. Be sure not to over color your bath bombs.  A few drops are all you need. The color will start to show later on in the process. When it comes to scent the rule of thumb would be less drops for essential oils more drops for synthetic oils. Again gently blend your ingredients together.

Place your witch hazel in a spray bottle and use your dominant hand to spritz the witch hazel onto the other ingredients while you stir the mixture with the other hand. Don’t spray too much witch hazel onto the mix because you will make the fizzing start.  Once the mix becomes sticky and moldable it’s time to stop and pour.

Scoop the mix into your bath bomb mold pushing the mix down to ensure a really smooth outer surface. The denser the bath bomb the longer it lasts. Let the molds set up for a few hours then pop the dry bombs out of the mold. I like to wrap them in those cellophane candy bags and put a label on the front.  Easy, cheap and useful. You know, the best kind of baby shower favors.
